Recent Product Recalls Consumers Should Know About

Waukegan Defective Products Attorneys

Thousands of products are recalled every year due to manufacturing defects, poor product design that creates unsafe conditions for users, or a lack of adequate safety information about the product included with its packaging. You can see the entire list of recalled products from this year and previous years on recalls.gov.

Any type of product can suffer from a defect that renders it dangerous or useless. This includes food, automobiles and automotive parts, infant and children's products, clothing and fashion accessories, cleaning products, drugs and pharmaceutical products, furniture, and household and outdoor goods. Even products from well-known, trusted brands can have significant problems that pose a risk to users. If you are injured by a defective product, you may be able to file a personal injury claim against its manufacturer. After receiving medical attention for your injury, contact an experienced personal injury attorney right away to begin working on your claim.

Keurig Coffee Machine Recall

Since its introduction to the market in 1998, Keurig's single-serve coffee machine has become a ubiquitous feature of the American home and office.

In 2015, Keurig issued a recall for 6.6 million of its Mini Plus brewers due to concerns of the water inside becoming too hot and spraying out of the machine, injuring users. These machines were sold at popular retailers nationwide from 2009 to 2014. The company received almost 200 reports of hot liquid escaping from the Mini Plus Brewing System coffee brewer. There were 90 reports of burn-related injuries. The burn-related injuries occurred when water overheated during the brewing process and sprayed out.

Keurig's recall was accompanied with information for users about how to contact the company to receive a free repair and how to avoid burns in the meantime.

Graco Stroller Recall

After 11 reports of finger injuries, including lacerations and complete fingertip amputations, Graco recalled 11 models of strollers that were sold between 2000 and 2014. These strollers all had the same sliding lock that can injure users' fingers when folding the stroller. During the 15-year period these strollers were available to consumers, nearly five million were sold throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Individuals who own this stroller are advised to contact Graco to receive a free repair kit.

Ignoring Recalls Can Lead to Injury

The above product recalls are just two examples of the thousands of everyday products that may be recalled due to safety concerns.

When a product is recalled, it is because that product has the potential to cause injury to its users. As a consumer, it is important to keep yourself updated on which products have been recalled. Keeping recalled products in your home can put you and your family at risk of being injured. If a recall is issued for a product that you own, stop using that product immediately and follow the instructions that the product's manufacturer provided about repairing or replacing the product.

Although many recall notices are sent through the mail, some are only available on the internet. Any time you make a purchase or consider doing so, check a website such as recalls.gov, fda.gov, or safekids.org. This is especially true if you are purchasing a used or secondhand product – if a product is a few years old, it might have been recalled in the past.

If You Are Injured By A Recalled Product

If you suffer from an injury because of a defective product, you may be able to file a personal injury claim against its manufacturer. Manufacturers hold strict liability for the products they produce, which means that you do not need to prove that the manufacturer was negligent if you used the product as intended and still suffered from an injury.

Seek medical attention for your injury right away; then contact an experienced personal injury attorney to begin working on your case. You will need documentation of your injury and treatment to file this type of claim. Your attorney will be able to guide you through this process and help you build a strong case to get the monetary compensation you seek.
