Drunk driver causes chain reaction crash in Chicago

Posted on December 00, 0000 in Drunk Driving Accidents

Accidents are always tough when the victims are unsuspecting and undeserving. Victims of drunk driving accident often fall into this category since it is not their fault that a driver chose to drink and get behind the wheel of a car. Drivers who make such a choice are putting everyone else at risk.

One such man is now charged with misdemeanor DUI after an early morning weekday crash in the West Town neighborhood in Chicago. Seven people were injured because of his actions. According to law enforcement officials, the man apparently crashed his car into another car and caused a chain-reaction of events. The man was travelling at a high rate of speed just before the crash. Two additional vehicles were damages in the incident.

The seven injured victims were taken to local hospitals and treated. Four of their conditions ranged from serious to critical to stable, while the other three were listed in either stable or good condition.

In addition to the DUI charge, the 29-year-old driver was also cited for failure to reduce speed. His next court appearance is scheduled for March.

The criminal charges may just be half the battle for this driver. Each of the victims of the DUI accident could file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver for his negligent behavior. Driving under the influence is considered negligent driving and the driver may be financially liable for the injuries he caused. Victims can seek compensation for hospital and medical bills and any related pain and suffering from the accident. A civil lawsuit may not completely restore the victims entirely but the financial support may help on their road to recovery.
