A 17-year-old boy tragically lost his life after crashing his BMW at a high rate of speed into a tree in Deer Park, Illinois on Monday morning. The impact was so severe that it caused the engine to completely detach from the vehicle. The Lake County Sheriff's Office and Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded around 9:45 a.m. to the area of Ela Road and Long Grove Road after multiple 911 callers reported the crash and said the driver was unresponsive and not breathing. Sheriff's deputies arrived to find the BMW sedan with catastrophic damage. According to Lake County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli, a preliminary investigation shows the 17-year-old boy was traveling southbound on Ela Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The BMW then left the roadway and struck a tree, resulting in the engine being ripped from the car. The young driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, and the driver was the sole occupant of the car. The identity of the victim is being temporarily withheld, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning by the Lake County Coroner's Office.
