On February 14, 2026, around 11:23 p.m., the North Chicago Police Department responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Green Bay Road and Argonne Drive in North Chicago. Officers arrived and found a crash involving two passenger cars in front of Toby's Tavern, located at 1930 Green Bay Road. According to North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn, officers extricated a 70-year-old male driver from one of the vehicles. Fire department radio traffic indicated he was unconscious and not breathing. Officers began life-saving measures until the North Chicago Fire Department arrived and rushed the man to a local hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. Paramedics also transported the 53-year-old female driver of the other vehicle to an area hospital, though the extent of her injuries was unknown. Lunn stated that it is unclear what exactly caused the crash, but it is possible one of the cars performed a U-turn out of a private parking lot onto Green Bay Road and attempted to go back into the lot when the other vehicle, traveling southbound, struck the first car.

Safety tips

Staying safe on the road is crucial. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Always wear your seatbelt and ensure all passengers are properly restrained.
  • Avoid distractions like cell phones, eating, or adjusting the radio while driving.
  • Obey all traffic signs and signals, and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of you.
  • Slow down and exercise caution in inclement weather or poor driving conditions.
  • Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Be extra vigilant when entering or exiting parking lots or driveways.
  • Stay alert for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other vulnerable road users.

Illinois statute of limitations

In Illinois, the statute of limitations for personal injury claims is generally two years from the date of the incident. Deadlines can vary by situation. This is general information, not legal advice. Timely action is crucial, as waiting too long to pursue a claim can result in the loss of important legal rights.
