Police say a domestic dispute resulted in two people being hit by a vehicle and injured on Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills Monday afternoon. The Vernon Hills Police Department and Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 12:05 p.m. to Milwaukee Avenue near Executive Way for a report of pedestrians who were struck. Police officers and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find two people who were struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of Milwaukee Avenue. Vernon Hills Deputy Police Chief Shannon Holubetz said preliminary information suggests the crash stemmed from a domestic dispute involving the occupants of two separate vehicles. "All parties have been identified, and police are not actively searching for anyone at this time," Holubetz said. Paramedics transported the two victims to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries. After the incident, Vernon Hills Police broadcast an alert over the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network (ISPERN) for the vehicle that struck the two victims and reportedly fled northbound on Milwaukee Avenue. The vehicle was described as a black Dodge pickup truck with two occupants. The alert was cancelled late Monday afternoon after the offending vehicle was reportedly located.
Safety tips
When involved in a traffic incident, it's important to remain calm and avoid escalating the situation. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:
- Pull over to a safe location, such as a parking lot or side street, to address the issue.
- Avoid confrontation and do not retaliate physically.
- Call the police if you feel threatened or the situation is unsafe.
- Seek medical attention promptly if you or anyone else is injured.
- Cooperate with law enforcement and provide any relevant information.
- Avoid admitting fault or making statements that could be used against you.
- Gather evidence, such as photos or witness statements, if possible.
- Seek the advice of an experienced personal injury attorney to protect your rights.
Illinois statute of limitations
In Illinois, the statute of limitations for personal injury claims is generally two years from the date of the incident. This means that victims have a limited time to file a lawsuit to seek compensation for their injuries and damages. Deadlines can vary by situation. This is general information, not legal advice.
It is important to take timely action to preserve evidence and ensure that your rights are protected. Consulting an experienced personal injury attorney can help ensure that you meet all applicable deadlines and maximize your chances of a favorable outcome.
