On Thursday morning, a multiple-vehicle crash in Barrington Hills resulted in two cars colliding head-on and a dump truck rolling over onto its side, spilling gravel and causing an over four-hour-long road closure. The Barrington Hills Police Department and Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 11:03 a.m. to the intersection of Route 62 and Old Sutton Road. Officers arrived to find a 2000 Peterbilt semi-dump truck, a 2010 Ford work truck, and a 2011 Honda Pilot involved in the incident. According to Barrington Hills Police Department Public Information Officer William Walsh, the preliminary investigation shows the Peterbilt was traveling northbound on Old Sutton Road when it continued into the intersection and first collided with the eastbound Ford. The impact then caused the Ford to strike the westbound Honda in a head-on collision, which in turn led to the dump truck overturning and spilling its load of gravel onto Route 62. Officers shut down Algonquin Road between Dundee Road and Bateman Road as a result of the crash. Paramedics transported four people to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates with non-life-threatening injuries, while the dump truck driver was treated and released at the scene. The roadway remained completely closed for over four hours as the vehicles were towed and the spilled debris was cleared. Walsh stated that citations are pending against the driver of the dump truck.

  • Be extra vigilant when approaching intersections, even if you have the right-of-way.
  • Slow down and exercise caution in inclement weather or poor visibility conditions.
  • Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Ensure your vehicle is properly maintained and in good working condition.
  • Always wear your seatbelt and ensure all passengers are also properly restrained.

Illinois statute of limitations
